# Cantilever Rack in Bartlesville, OK

Cantilever rack in Bartlesville puts long material within reach without front posts interrupting the loading face. Arms project from upright columns, giving a forklift room to place bundles directly onto their supports. That open face matters when pipe, bar or lumber extends well beyond the width of a conventional pallet position.

Start with the material rather than a preferred rack height. Bundle length, depth, weight and stiffness determine the arm arrangement; the handling truck determines much of the working aisle. A cantilever storage rack should let operators approach squarely, set the load down without dragging it across adjacent stock, and withdraw without catching loose ends.

We supply and install as a division of Warehouse Equipment & Supplies Co., with that work dating to 1997. For an existing building, the useful starting point is a load list and a measured floor plan, including doors, columns and the routes that receiving crews actually use.

## Where Cantilever Rack Earns Its Floor Space

Use cantilever racking when the load needs support along its length but cannot be handled cleanly between pallet-rack uprights. Tube, structural shapes and bundled lumber are familiar examples. Sheet goods and furniture can also fit, provided the selected supports or decking suit their bearing needs and do not leave vulnerable edges unsupported.

Selective pallet rack remains the better starting point for ordinary palletized inventory picked by pallet position. Mixing both systems can be sensible: reserve the open-front run for long stock and keep boxed components on pallets. Compare the complete handling path, not simply how many levels can be drawn on a wall.

### Operations We Rack Around Here

At Bartlesville Industrial Park and along the US-75 corridor, energy and manufacturing support operations may need separate positions for pipe bundles and shorter fabrication stock. Those different lengths affect column spacing and whether a shared run makes sense.

## Four Decisions Behind Cantilever Racking

Arm and column ratings must work together as a system. Establish the heaviest intended load and how it bears across the supports before choosing components; dividing a bundle weight by an assumed number of arms is not enough if support is uneven.

1

### Arm reach and rating

Size arm length to the actual bundle depth and choose capacity for the load carried at each support. Include any decking or attachments in the load assessment.

2

### Spacing and overhang

For suitable rigid loads, begin with support spacing roughly half the load length and even end overhang. Check sag and bending behavior before fixing column locations.

3

### Stock restraint

Straight arms suit many flat-bottomed bundles; inclined arms with suitable lips help retain round stock. Neither arrangement replaces a review of how loose pieces will be contained.

4

### One face or two

A single-sided run can serve a perimeter position. A double-sided run needs loading access on both faces and a layout that accounts for traffic on either side.

## Putting the Rack into a Working Bay

Anchored bases are part of the cantilever rack installation, not an optional finishing step. Confirm the slab condition, base footprint and anchoring arrangement for the selected system before equipment arrives. Keep base projections out of travel paths, and check that a truck can turn toward the rack without striking a column.

Indoor and outdoor applications need different exposure reviews. For outside storage, discuss the finish, drainage, ground or slab suitability, and the weather exposure of both rack and material. Indoors, available clear height must be measured around obstructions rather than inferred from the roof line.

Check the proposed aisle with the actual forklift or side-loader, including load length and turning movement. In a non-air-conditioned building, summer heat also affects unloading and installation staging. Plan a clear work zone so the installation crew and daily receiving activity are not competing for the same approach.
