# Carton Flow Rack in Broken Arrow, OK

For manufacturing supply and order fulfillment, carton flow rack in Broken Arrow puts the next case within reach while replenishment stays behind the picking face. Gravity carries cases and totes along inclined roller lanes. Operators remove stock at the front instead of reaching through a deep shelf opening.

That arrangement works best when the product mix warrants dedicated lanes. We look at how often a line is picked, how much reserve belongs behind it and how the package behaves on rollers. A layout should balance picking speed with the space and labor needed to keep the lanes loaded.

We supply and install as a division of Warehouse Equipment & Supplies Co., with that work dating to 1997. For carton flow racking, our starting point is a package list and an honest view of the existing operation, not an assumption that every product needs gravity storage.

## Four Decisions Behind Case Flow Rack Performance

A lane must handle the whole operating range, including partly emptied cartons when piece picking is involved. Review the package base and loaded weight before selecting the roller arrangement or deciding how many units to queue.

1

### Support the base

Place rollers where the carton or tote can carry its load without dragging. A sample run can reveal weak bottoms that dimensions alone miss.

2

### Set controlled travel

The incline should advance stock after removal without sending it hard into the front restraint. Test travel with both light and heavy packages.

3

### Define each lane

Lane widths and dividers should guide the package while allowing normal size variation. Separate stock lines so a replenisher can identify the intended channel.

4

### Separate the work

Load from the rear and pick from the front for FIFO movement. Reserve enough rear working space to load cases without interrupting the person picking.

## Build Around the Existing Rack and Workstations

Retrofitting into pallet rack bays can preserve a useful frame while changing the picking level. Measure clear bay width, depth, beam locations and obstructions, then review attachment requirements and the loads on the complete assembly. The condition and configuration of the host rack matter as much as the proposed flow bed.

A pick module can place several picking zones near packing or production issue points. Choose elevations around reach and package weight, with clear labels visible when lanes are full. Leave working space for open cartons and order containers; a tightly packed rack face alone does not make a workable station.

Plan the installation sequence around incoming material and unfinished orders. In a hot, humid building, smaller work zones and planned staging can reduce disruption while equipment is being placed. Keep an agreed route open for replenishment, and trial a completed bay before transferring all active stock.

## When Carton Flow Rack Beats a Deep Shelf

Cartons waiting behind the front unit create more storage depth without adding more pick-face frontage. This can reduce walking between frequently ordered lines and remove the need to pull reserve cartons forward by hand. The gain depends on sensible slotting, not simply filling every opening with the greatest possible quantity.

Use shelving when demand is scattered, quantities are small or containers snag on roller tracks. Choose pallet flow when the working unit is a pallet rather than a case or tote. Case flow rack sits between those approaches and can serve small-part issue, e-commerce orders or manufacturing supply without turning every position into a pallet location.

### Operations We Rack Around Here

Manufacturing space in the Broken Arrow Industrial District and newer tilt-wall distribution buildings near the Kenosha industrial area can present different bay and aisle arrangements. We plan picking elevations and replenishment access around the actual building, rather than treating extra clear height as a reason to raise hand picks.
