Carton Flow Rack in Bixby, OK

Carton flow rack in Bixby brings active cases and totes to the picker instead of sending the picker down a shelf to reach them. Inclined roller lanes use gravity to advance the next load as the front one is removed. The result is a compact picking face with reserve stock queued behind each opening.

The right layout starts with the package, not a catalog bay size. We review carton bottoms, loaded tote weights, order frequency and replenishment quantities before setting lane depth. A fast mover may need several lanes; a slow mover may belong on nearby shelving rather than occupy valuable flow space.

As a division of Warehouse Equipment & Supplies Co., we have been supplying and installing storage equipment since 1997. Our approach pairs carton flow racking with the way your crew actually handles orders, including split cases, returns and changing product ranges.

Where Carton Flow Rack Earns Its Space

Flow storage suits repeated piece or case picks from a fairly stable product range. More pick locations can fit along a working aisle because depth holds reserve cartons behind each position. That pick-face density can shorten walking routes, while front presentation reduces reaching into partially emptied shelves.

Shelving remains useful for odd shapes, very slow lines and products that cannot travel cleanly on rollers. Pallet flow serves a different load: full pallets moving through deeper lanes. A case flow rack handles smaller packages close to the operator and can form the picking level beneath pallet reserve storage.

    Operations We Rack Around Here

For flex buildings near Memorial Drive and 121st Street, wholesale operations may need a picking area that shares space with receiving. Bay depth and rear access should reflect that shared floor rather than assume a separate replenishment aisle is available.

How Carton Flow Racking Moves the Load

Package trials establish whether the proposed lane will move consistently from rear loading to front removal. Test both the lightest case and the heaviest tote; similar outside dimensions do not guarantee the same travel.

    1

    Roller contact

Roller spacing must support the base without letting corners sag between tracks. Soft cartons and uneven tote feet need particular attention.

    2

    Pitch and control

Set the incline to move the load without a hard arrival at the picking edge. Add suitable speed control where the package and lane depth call for it.

    3

    Width and separation

Choose lane widths with room for package variation, then use dividers to keep neighboring products apart. Excess clearance can allow a carton to turn sideways.

    4

    Front and rear access

Pick from the front and replenish from the back to support FIFO rotation. Keep each lane assigned to one stock line and load newer inventory behind older units.

Fit the Bay Before Planning the Pick Module

Existing pallet rack bays can often receive flow beds, but connection details, beam elevations and the load carried by the host rack need review. We check upright spacing and usable depth rather than assuming that an insert fits because its nominal width looks close. Damaged components should be identified before conversion planning.

In pick modules, the working height, label position and hand clearance deserve as much attention as lane count. Locate frequent picks within a practical reach band and leave room for the replenishment team to handle full cases. A dense face is not useful if staff must repeatedly lift awkwardly to use it.

Installation staging also matters in mostly non-air-conditioned buildings during hot, humid summers. Plan deliveries, work zones and temporary stock locations so receiving can continue without blocking rear loading. Agree on how completed bays will be checked with actual packages before moving the whole product range into them.
